Ontractor T-40 is equipped with D-144 four-stroke diesel engine with air cooling and rated power of 50 hp.
The engine of the T-40 tractor consists of a crank mechanism, a fuel and air supply system, a distribution mechanism, a cooling system, an oil system and a starting device.

On the left side of the D-144 engine are located: intake and exhaust pipelines, fuel equipment and the middle deflector.
On the right side are installed: oil centrifuge, starter, decompressor drive mechanism, generator, nozzles and fan protection. There is an oil radiator under the fan casing.
In the front part of the power unit are placed: fan, oil filler neck,pump hydraulics, hour meter, generator and fan drive pulley. In the back of the D-144 engine, a flywheel cover is attached to the crankcase.
