Okopnik is a European species belonging to the genus Okopnik of the Burachnykovy family. The genus Okopnyk is the most famous representative, which includes more than 25 species, widely distributed in the Mediterranean, Western Asia and in the temperate climate of Europe. Trench is a perennial herbaceous plant 30-100 cm tall. Roots, sometimes fresh leaves of the plant are prepared. The roots are collected in autumn or early spring before the leaves bloom. The excavated roots are cleaned from the ground, quickly washed with cold water, dried, cut into pieces up to 20 cm long and dried under a canopy or in a dryer at a temperature of 40 °C. Stored in a
wooden container in a dry place for up to 3 years.
