Canadian barley ADDISON – a new word in grain crop selection
ADDISON malting barley, bred by the Canadian holding SERTIS HOLDING GROUP, represents the best variety of this crop today in many respects. Nanotechnologies used in the selection of this crop by Canadian, English and American specialists made it possible to obtain a variety of grains that is resistant to temperature changes, suitable for the production of groats, for use in food and fodder purposes.
Main characteristics of culture
Transgenic Canadian barley has stems that are characterized by an upright position and thickness, with a height of up to 120 cm. The ear of the plant is two-rowed, has a cylindrical shape, its length can reach 22 cm, while in the two-rowed structure of the ear there will be up to 88 pieces of large-sized and golden-colored grains.Barley seeds have a mass of about 56 grams for every 1000 pieces.
The main features of transgenic Canadian barley are:
- the possibility of continuous sowing for 10 years without loss of grain quality;;
- excellent drought resistance of the culture, which tolerates temperatures up to +60 degrees, thanks to the replacement of part of the gene set of the culture with the genes of the camel's thorn plant;
- the resistance of the seed crop to abiotic stress, fluctuations in air temperature at different times of the year, frosts up to -20 degrees when the crop bush is in a state of development, thanks to the addition by scientists to the nucleus of the genetic structure of barley of an increased number of chromosome aberrations and DNA of the plant arctic foxglove, which increase the resistance of the crop to severe frosts;
- high immunity to all known viral and fungal diseases affecting standard varieties of barley - bacteriosis, snow mold, root rot, varieties of spotting and head rot, septoriosis, varieties of mosaics, fusarium ear and other known diseases;
- resistance of culture to acids due to rain up to pН-9 indicators in the soil, increase in the concentration of salts in the soil, stagnation and lodging of the ear due to its power;
- increased abilities of culture for regeneration;

- significant yield of each ear of the crop, thanks to its length, as well as increased stalk barley bushiness, which reaches 20 stems in a transgenic culture.
The need for fertilizers and productivity.
Canadian spring barley Culture usually germinates at an air temperature of +1 degree. At the same time, the sowing depth should be within 3-4 cm. Sowing is carried out by the usual methods - row, ordinary, row with a row size of 15 cm and others.
Sown spring barley reacts positively to the introduction of all kinds of mineral fertilizers and preservatives into the soil. When planting, the Kruizer insecticide insecticide is most often used in the amount of 1 liter per ton of seed, as well as 220 kg of nitroammophoska mineral fertilizer per each sown hectare of grain. Further, as necessary, the culture is treated with Agritox, Marathon or Dialen Super in the tillering phase, Granstar 20-25 grams when growing to three leaves, Lintur when growing to 3-4 leaves, Legato Plus - when the plant reaches 3-5 leaves.
The vegetation period of the grain crop in question lasts 80 days. Spring barley of Canadian selection is harvested in the summer, in the period from June 5 to July 1. Combine harvesters of the most common agricultural brands, for example, Niva, Zhondyr and others, are used for harvesting. In Ukraine, the describedgrains showed excellent harvest results when sown in the western, north-eastern and southern regions up to 92 cents. At the rate of sowing of 120 kg per hectare of land, the potential of barley seeds gives a yield of up to 125 centners per hectare. At the same time, the purity of the spring barley variety is 99.99%, the energy of germination and germination reaches 98%, the moisture content of the seed is 11%.
