The role of calcium in plant life:
• Affects the metabolism of carbohydrates and proteins, activates enzymes.
• stimulates the growth of plants and the development of the root system.
• regulates water balance
• promotes the transportation of carbohydrates
• affects soil fertility
• improves the mechanical composition of the soil
Lack of calcium in the soil leads to:
*
cell deformations plants
* weak formation of covering tissues.
* abundant development of intercellular spaces, which are weakly filled with lignin
* without calcium, root growth slows down, they become slimy and rot.
Symptoms of calcium deficiency appear first of all on young leaves: their growth slows down, small, irregularly shaped leaves are formed, chlorotic spotting appears, the tips of young leaves turn white; the edges of the leaves curl downward, turn yellow and die prematurely, the midribs of the leaves break; with severe starvation, the top of the plant and flower stalks die, the stems grow weak.
With calcium starvation, a brownish color or brown necrotic spots may appear on the edges of chlorotic leaves. In many bulbs without calcium, a weak, drooping peduncle is formed.
It's better to win than to miss.
So give your plants everything they need at the right time and in the right amount.
Love your plants and let them be healthy!
