Magnolia Soulange -

Hybrid of naked magnolia and lily-colored magnolia (M. denudata x M. liliflora) Bred in France in 1820 by a former diplomat of the French army, Soulange.

A deciduous shrub up to 4-5 m high or, in the southern regions, a small tree up to 10-12 m high.

Flowering: dark purple flower buds, large flowers, with fleshy convex petals, white inside.
Foliage: large leaves, bright green, yellow in autumn. Roots: it is very superficial and extremely vulnerable, therefore, when working the soil with a garden rake or shovel, you need to be very careful. Planting in early spring is recommended.

Soil: prefers fresh, fertile, permeable soil. Seedlings of magnolia soulanza Lennea are better to buy in Ukraine (acclimatized) in a plastic container withfertilizers, so the plant is not dug up with inevitable damage to the root system and after planting it is guaranteed to take root.

Light: prefers sunny places.
Characteristics of the variety: magnolias belong to the most beautiful flowering decorative plants. All magnolias grow well in sunny or slightly shaded places, well protected from the wind. They prefer humus, fertile, above all loose, well-drained soils, from acidic to neutral.

Zone: 6b - winter hardy in Ukrainian conditions with normal care. It is best to cover young plants for the winter with white spunbond using a primitive pyramidal frame made of three guides connected at the top.
