Barcelonsky, Barcelona hazelnut seedlings. (Two-year-old), Chernivtsi region.

Barcelonsky - bush grows strongly, creating a spreading, dense crown. Sufficiently hardy at low temperatures. In our climate, it reaches a height of up to 5 meters. The leaves are large or very large (length up to 14 cm, width - up to 12 cm), elliptic or rounded, light green, the upper side is darker, the lower side is lighter, there are few hairs on the veins. In autumn, the leaves turn light yellow. The edges of the leaves have small teeth, the top is strongly jagged. There are quite a lot of earrings, they are large (length - up to 9 cm, diameter - about 7 mm), usually 2-3 in bunches, lime green. Flowering time — mid-early. The fruit wrap is quite large, almost 2 times longer than a nut, wide, spaced like a nut. The edges have narrow, long teeth. During the ripening period of the nuts, the shell opens and the nuts fall out freely. The nuts are large, even very large, of variable shape, usually wrapped in an ovoid or bluntly conical shape, slightly flattened, irregularly fluted or angular, often triangular. Measurements: height - up to 25 mm, width - up to 20 mm, thickness - up to 17 mm. The shell is quite thick, red-brown, shiny with dark brown stripes at the bottom, lighter, suede-like at the top. The top of the nut is often spiky. The base is large or medium, conical, mostly triangular or irregular in shape. The kernel is large, almost completely fills the shell, the shape is close to a walnut, asymmetrical, shapeless, flattened, juicy, sweet, tasty, covered with a wrinkled, finely fibrous, thin, brown shell. Sometimes there is a small gap in the middle of the nucleus. Nuts ripen in the first half of September. The variety is very prolific, it begins to bear fruit early. It deserves to be widely distributed in all types of plantings, especially commercial ones. The disadvantage of the variety is vulnerability to moniliosis in especially wet years. Pollinators: Halle, Chudo iz Bolwiller, Lamberta white, Daviana
