Reducer of the starting unit (RPD)
of the tractor T-40 is designed to reduce the rotation frequency during the transmission of the torque from the crankshaft of the starting engine to the diesel flywheel. The presence of a clutch and an overrunning clutch (in the figure pos. 13) of the engagement gear allows the gearbox to connect the starter motor with the diesel engine at start-up, as well as disconnect them after starting the main engine.
As the free play of the clutch lever increases, its performance deteriorates. This makes it necessary to adjust the clutch drive by tensioning the cable braid. The adjusting screw (item 1) at the factory during assembly is set in such a way that the gap between its stop and the end of the rod (item 19) is 0.2-2 mm. During operation, this size remains unchanged. When adjusting the clutch lever, it is necessary to set it in the lowest position.
It is forbidden to insert the gear into the gear immediately (that is, without a pause) after switching off the clutch! When disassembling the tractor unit T-40 (D-144), it is necessary to inspect the gear teeth of the reducer and the flywheel crown and, if necessary, clean the holes. It is also necessary to make sure that the drive gear is fully engaged with the flywheel crown. The adjustment of the gear stroke is carried out with the help of a lever located on the reducer. When the lever is in contact with the head of the adjustment bolt, the gear must be pressed against the end of the sleeve on the shaft (item 14) of the gearbox. The full inclusion of the gear is checked after the control of its inclusion is established. Adjustment of stroke is carried out by increasing or decreasing the length of the thrust.

In order to maintain the efficiency of the PD8-0000120-M gearbox, it is not recommended to engage the clutch (item 6) abruptly. You should also not allow prolonged operation of the starter motor with the clutch disengaged. Worn
discs clutch clutches must be replaced with new ones. To do this, remove the cover (item 18) of the gearbox, the brake (item 4) and the clutch (item 6) of the shaft (item 14) of the gearbox. Then the clutch is disassembled and the worn discs are replaced. When operating the gearbox, a mixture containing 30% motor oil and 70% diesel fuel is poured into its housing.
