YAMZ 236/238 clutch basket (MAZ),
YaMZ-236 four-stroke engines from the beginning of production were equipped with a YaME-236B single-disc clutch with a central conical spring and a YaMZ-236B gearbox. Since June 1965, a YAMZ-236 single-disc clutch with peripheral springs and a new YAME-236 gearbox were installed on some engines, and since January 1966, all YAME-236 engines have been equipped with clutches and gearboxes of a new design. On the same engines released since November 1970 (starting with
serial number 169001) two-disc YAME-236K clutch and YAME-236P gearbox are installed.
The YaMZ-238 and YaMZ-238A engines were equipped with a YaMZ-238K two-disc clutch with a peripheral arrangement of pressure springs, but with
driven discs without a damper device and a YaMZ-238K gearbox. In March 1966, the production of a new YaME-236S gearbox, which modification of the YAME-236 gearbox. Since May 1966, all YaM.3-238 and YaMZ-238A engines were equipped only with the YaMZ-236S gearbox instead of the temporarily used YaME-238K gearbox.
On the same engines produced in August 1969 (with serial number 91195), the YAME-238S clutch with dampers in the slave disks
disks and the same YAMZ-236S gearbox are installed. Since January 1971, the designation of the YAME-238S clutch was changed to YAMZ-238, and the designation of the YAMZ-236S gearbox was changed to YAMZ-236Н without any design changes.
YaMZ-238G engines are equipped with a YaM.3-238 two-disc clutch without a gearbox.
YAMZ-236B clutch is single-disc, dry, friction type, with a central conical spring. This clutch is a modification of the YAZ-210 clutch, installed on the YAZ-M206 two-stroke engine, and is well known in operation, so its disassembly and repair do not present difficulties and are not considered here.
YAMZ-236 clutch is single-disc, dry, friction type, with a peripheral arrangement of cylindrical springs, with a damping device in the driven disc. In August 1969, starting with the YAME-236 engine No. 130926, the control dimension B (Fig. 119) of the YAME-236 clutch pressure disc assembly with a cover (pressure set) was changed from 56±0.5 mm to 64±0.5 mm.

YAME-238K clutch is a two-disc, dry, friction type, with peripheral cylindrical springs. Driven disks without a damper device.
YAMZ-238 clutch (YAMZ-238S) is a two-disc, dry, friction type, with a peripheral arrangement of cylindrical springs, with a damping device in the driven discs (Fig. 120).
The YAMZ-236K clutch is two-disc, differs from the YAMZ-238 clutch by a reduced number of compression springs — 24 instead of 28.
Each modification of the clutch is installed on the engine only with certain flywheels, differing from each other mainly only by the size A (Fig. 40) from the stop plane T3 to the working surface T,
When assembling the engine, it is necessary to check the marking of the flywheel, made in casting on the surface of T2. On the YAME-236 engine, for the YAME-236K two-disc clutch, the flywheel is marked YAMZ-236-1005115-E, for the YAME-236 single-disc clutch, it is YAMZ-236-1005115-D. On the YAME-238 engine, the YAMZ-238-1005115^D flywheel was installed under the YAME-238K clutch, and the YAMZ-238-1005115-G flywheel was installed under the YAMZ-238 (YAMZ-238C) clutch.
If two identical driven discs were installed in the YAME-238K clutch, then in the YAMZ-238 clutch the driven discs are not interchangeable.

In connection with the introduction of a damping device in the YAMZ-238 clutch, the thickness of the middle driving disc has been increased from 25 to 31 mm, and in the pressure set, the control dimension B (see Fig. 120) between the working surfaces of the pressure disc and the thrust ring has been increased to 64±D5 mm when the latter is installed on the tension levers.

To enable the use of driven disks until the friction linings are completely worn out, the clutch release clutch is shortened by 10 mm. In addition, on the YAME-238 clutch pressure plate, special stops for tension levers are introduced.
With the introduction of a damper device in the driven
диски сцеплеniya YAMZ-238, the design of the YAMZ-236 single-disc clutch was also changed for the purpose of unification. The previously installed driven disc is replaced by the front driven disc of the YAME-238 two-disc clutch, marked on the friction lining with the number 238-1601130-B. The control size B of the pressure set has been changed, and the clutch release clutch has also been shortened by 10 mm.
All clutch parts of the old design, which have lost interchangeability, are supplied as spare parts along with the parts of the new design. The possibility of mutual use of parts in clutches of old and new releases is considered below.
The pressure discs in the assembly with the YAMZ-236 clutch cover of the old design and the YAMZ-238K clutch with a control size of 56± ±0.5 mm can be re-adjusted to a control size of 65±0.5 mm in a special device (Fig. 121) for installation on engines equipped with flywheels for YAME-236 clutches of the new design and YAMZ-238. The YAME-236 clutch pressure kit of the new release and the YAME-238 and YAME-236K clutches with a control size of 64±0.5 mm cannot be re-adjusted to a control size of 56±0.5 mm due to the presence of stops of the tension levers on the pressure disk.
The pressure set of the new design with a control size of 64±0.5 mm can be installed without any changes in the YAME-236 clutch of the old design and in the YAME-238K clutch, but only with a 50 mm clutch release clutch (shortened by 10 mm). The shortened clutch can be installed on clutches of both old and new design. Thus, the pressure disc (separate part) of the old design can be installed in the clutches of both the old and the new design, and the pressure disc of the new design with stops for the tensioning levers can be installed only in the pressure set with a control size of 64 ±0.5 mm.
The casings of two-disc clutches YAM-3-238 and YAMZ-238K are identical and differ from the casing of a single-disc clutch only by the presence of threaded bushings for adjustment bolts. Therefore, a casing with such a bushing without an adjustment bolt can be installed on a YAME-236 single-disc clutch.
The casing of the YAME-236K two-disc clutch differs from the casing of other two-disc clutches by the number of guide cups for compression springs, which on this casing are 24 instead of 28 in accordance with the number of compression springs of the clutch. When using a casing with 28 cups for YAMZ-236K clutches, the remaining 4 cups must be removed, since these cups, which are free from springs, during operation can detach from the casing under the action of centrifugal forces and disable the entire clutch.
The front driven disk with a damping device of the two-disc clutch is not interchangeable with the rear driven disk and differs in the location of the hub relative to the disk and the opposite location of the disc spring bolts. In the front driven disc, the elongated part of the hub faces the opposite side of the protruding part of the damper. In the rear driven disc, the elongated part of the hub faces the side of the protruding part of the damper. The bolt heads of disc springs in both discs are located on the side of the elongated part of the hub.
The front driven disc with a damper device of the YAMZ-238 two-disc clutch can be installed in the YAMZ-236 single-disc clutch (with a control size of 56±0.5 mm), while the driven disc of the single-disc clutch of the old design cannot be installed in the YAMZ-238 clutch.
In the case of extreme necessity, the driven discs of the YAMZ-238K clutch without a damping device can be installed in the YAMZ-238 clutch.
The YAME-236K two-disc clutch differs from the YAMZ-238 clutch only by the reduced axial force of the pressure set due to the smaller number of pressure springs, and all the parts of these clutches are identical and completely interchangeable. Therefore, all the variants of the YaMZ-238 clutch assembly discussed above are also acceptable for the YaMZ-2E6K clutch.
