Catalpa fruits appear in the middle of summer - pod-shaped boxes with
brown seeds. Catalpa fruits are usually collected in autumn and spring. October-November is the best time to gather.
Catalpa blooms from June to July (up to 4 weeks). Catalpa flowers secrete a lot of nectar, nectar is secreted by flowers steadily, regardless of weather conditions. Flowers are willingly visited by bees. Catalpa provides a supportive honey collection. Honey productivity 250-500 kg/ha.
Catalpa is propagated by seeds and cuttings. Before planting, the seeds are pre-soaked in warm water for 7-12 hours. Sowing is carried out in February - March (before the buds open). Autumn planting is carried out before the onset of frost. Seeds are sprinkled with a thin layer of earth and covered with film or glass. After the emergence of seedlings, the shelter is removed.
Seedlings I plant them at a distance of 5-6 m from each other. Before planting, dig a shallow hole, mix the excavated earth with humus. When planting, make sure that the root neck is above the soil surface at a level of 2-3 cm.
Catalpa prefers well-moistened soils and bright places. It grows very slowly on dry and compacted ground. The plant is drought-resistant, but requires watering on hot days. In good conditions, ordinary catalpa grows and develops quickly. It is frost-resistant, but in severe winters annual shoots suffer, so they are wrapped with material for the winter period. It blooms in the fifth year of life.
