Rosin and products of its processing are used for sizing paper and cardboard, as an emulsifier in the production of synthetic rubber, in the production of rubber, plastics, artificial leather, linoleum, soap, varnishes and paints, electrical insulating mastics and compounds.

It is widely used as a flux during tinning and soldering with low-melting solders to dissolve oxide films on the surface of soldered metals and solder, which improves the wettability of the metal surface with solder. It is used when soldering steel parts, parts made of copper alloys and copper, zinc, and other non-ferrous metals (not suitable for soldering aluminum and aluminum alloys).
